Nice to meet you!
Lucky Squirrel educators are co-researchers and co-learners with the children. We are there to help them pursue and explore their interests. As a community, we are committed to nurturing all our relations’ curiosities, passions, and relationships.
We are deeply grateful for our ever-present co-teacher, the beautiful Land we call home. We take great pride in providing a safe, cozy, reciprocal, and loving atmosphere.
Georgia Smith (she/he/they)
Founder & Co-Learner
I have always had a deep love for playing with children and take great pride in helping them navigate the joys and troubles of being human! As early as I can remember, I knew that when I grew up, my job would revolve around children. I was the toddler with 4 baby dolls in my arms at all times and always introduced my little brother as my baby.
In 2018, I moved from Tennessee to Squamish to attend Quest University. I absolutely loved my years at Quest and during my time there I fell in love with outdoor education and cooking rooted in connection to the Land. I began volunteering and eventually began teaching at a local nature school as an Education Assistant and as their Food Curriculum Director.
In 2024, I left to work at an outdoor daycare as an Early Childhood Educator Assistant, where I began to learn American Sign Language (ASL). Now, in 2026, I have begun working with a client one-on-one as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant with a child whose first language is ASL. My experiences with this visual language have opened up a whole new world to me and I’m deeply grateful to benefit from the language and culture of Deaf and Hard of Hearing people. I believe that ASL is a helpful language for anyone to learn and use, especially neurodivergent learners, so it is used and taught frequently in my child care programming.
For six years, I have been working in exclusively outdoor settings with children— these experiences have solidified my affinity for this sacred Land and bolstered my belief that children thrive when they are connected to the Earth. My undergrad thesis explored the link between outdoor exploration and self-actualization during childhood (link below for those curious!). I view Land-based learning as a powerful tool in fostering environmental stewardship and reciprocity in future generations. Indigenous peoples have long known these truths and I am lucky to follow in many of their pedagogical footsteps.
I love making art; especially printmaking, sewing, solar printing (cyanotypes), weaving, and ceramics! I love swimming, cheese, ladybugs, chess, and the book Braiding Sweetgrass.
Thank you for trusting Lucky Squirrel with the most wonderful people in the world. I’m humbled and honoured to know and love your children. I'm so lucky to be part of their story and this community. I'm incredibly grateful to the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw stewards who have long protected this sacred and stolen Land. I feel deep reverence for the Land we play on/with, and the plants and animals who share the space with us every day.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
